Recognizes a 382-amino-acid protein, alpha-methylacyl-CoA racemase (AMACR), that was identified by cDNA library subtraction in conjunction with high throughput microarray screening of prostate adenocarcinomas.
AMACR, also known as P504S, is an enzyme that is involved in bile acid biosynthesis and β-oxidation of branched-chain fatty acids. It is expressed in cells of premalignant high-grade prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia (HGPIN) and prostate adenocarcinoma (1). In glandular epithelial cells of normal and benign hyperplastic prostates AMACR is present at low or undetectable levels.

FLEX Monoclonal Rabbit Anti-Human AMACR, Clone 13H4, Ready-to-Use (Dako Autostainer/Autostainer Plus), is intended for use in immunohistochemistry together with Dako Autostainer/Autostainer Plus instruments. This antibody is useful for the identification of prostate adenocarcinomas (1-9). The clinical interpretation of any staining or its absence should be complemented by morphological studies using proper controls and should be evaluated within the context of the patient's clinical history and other diagnostic tests by a qualified pathologist.
