Calretinin
Clone DAK-Calret 1
Calretinin is a 32 kDa member of the superfamily of calcium-binding proteins.
It is abundantly expressed in central and peripheral neural tissues, particularly in the retina and in the neurons of the sensory pathways, and calretinin may play an important role in the survival of nerve cells during disturbances in calcium homeostasis. Calretinin is also expressed by both normal and neoplastic mesothelial cells, and it has been suggested as a useful marker for the identification of malignant mesotheliomas of the epithelial type and for the differentiation of these malignancies of lung adenocarcinoma.

Granulosa cell tumor. The majority of the neoplastic cells show a distinct nuclear and cytoplasmic staining reaction.
Clinical application for IR627/IS627. Primarily for identification of mesothelial cells and malignant mesothelioma of the epithelial type and in the differential diagnosis of mesothelioma vs. primary/metastatic lung or ovarian adenocarcinoma.

FLEX Monoclonal Mouse Anti-Human Calretinin, Clone DAK-Calret 1, Ready-to-Use (Link), is intended for use in immunohistochemistry together with Autostainer Link instruments. This antibody labels calretinin in normal and neoplastic mesothelial cells and is a useful tool for the identification of malignant mesotheliomas of the epithelial type and for the differentiation of these malignancies from metastases of lung adenocarcinoma (1, 3). Antibodies to calretinin may be useful in the differential diagnosis of ovarian sex cord stromal tumors such as granulosa cell tumors (4). The clinical interpretation of any staining or its absence should be complemented by morphological studies using proper controls and should be evaluated within the context of the patient's clinical history and other diagnostic tests by a qualified pathologist.
