Intended Use

Glucagon, a polypeptide of 29 amino acids, is one of seven known hormones produced in the pancreas. Glucagon, secreted by A-cells of the islets of Langerhans, elicits elevated blood glucose concentrations, stimulates intestinal fluid secretion and gastrin release and facilitates the inhibition of gastric and pancreatic secretions (1,2).The clinical interpretation of any positive staining or its absence should be complemented by morphological and histological studies with proper controls. Interpretation must be made within the context of the patient's clinical history and other diagnostic tests by a qualified pathologist.

The antibody has not been characterized by RIA techniques. Cross-reactivity with glucagon from other mammalian species was demonstrated by immunohistochemistry. This product has been optimized for use on human tissue.
Reagent Provided
Rabbit anti-glucagon is an unfractionated rabbit antiserum in 0.05 mol/L Tris-HCL, pH 7.6, and 0.015 mol/L sodium azide.
