CD95, originally named Fas, is involved in mediation of apoptosis (programmed cell death). CD95 is a cell surface glycoprotein expressed by a substantial minority of resting T and B cells, and by about 5% of resting NK cells. Among T cells, CD95 is preferentially expressed by CD45RAlow CD45R0high memory T cells. CD95 is strongly upregulated on activated T, B and NK cells.
