The Giemsa stain is a polychromatic stain based on a modified Wohlbach's technique. This stain can be used to identify hematopoietic cells (i.e. mast cells, basophils, polymorphonuclear lymphocytes, etc.) in tissue. This stain is not intended for staining of bone marrow cores, bone marrow smears, or peripheral blood smears. Cell types are stained as follows: mast-cell granules and basophils - purple, eosinophils - bright pink, lymphocytes - blue.
