Tag Search Results: Peptide nucleic acid (PNA)
Peptide nucleic acid (PNA) is synthetic mimic of DNA in which the phosphate-sugar polynucleotide backbone is replaced by a flexible pseudo-peptide polymer to which the nucleobases are linked. PNA has the capacity to hybridise with high affinity and specificity to complementary sequences of DNA and RNA. PNA-based hybridisation technology is developing rapidly. PNA telomere specific probes are used in fluorescence in situ hybridisation to detect telomeres at the chromosome ends.
