In the early part of 2000, Dako A/S started to use the term 'pharmacoDiagnostic®' (a.k.a. companion diagnostic) or in short pharmDx™ to describe "a pre-treatment measurement performed to aid in the assessment of whether a patient is likely to respond to a given drug or not". The best example of pharmacoDiagnostic® to date is HercepTest™ which predicts response to Herceptin®.
