Herpes Simplex Virus Type 1
Herpes simplex virus (HSV) belongs to the Herpesviridae family of viruses. HSV infects cells of the mucoepithelia or the skin.
The antibody reacts with type-specific, i.e. HSV-1, as well as with type-common, i.e. also with HSV-2, antigens. This antibody is useful for the identification of herpes simplex virus in human cellular material.

FLEX Polyclonal Rabbit Anti-Herpes Simplex Virus Type 1, Ready-to-Use (Dako Autostainer/Autostainer Plus), is intended for use in immunohistochemistry together with Dako Autostainer/Autostainer Plus instruments. The antibody reacts with type-specific as well as with type-common antigens. This antibody is useful for theidentification of herpes simplex virus in human cellular material (1, 2). The clinical interpretation of any staining or its absence should becomplemented by morphological studies using proper controls and should be evaluated within the context of the patient's clinical history and other diagnostic tests by a qualified pathologist.

Immunogen
Detergent-solubilized HSV type 1 (strain MacIntyre)-infected whole rabbit cornea cells (continuous cell line).
Specificity
The antibody reacts with HSV type 1 specific antigens and with antigens common for HSV types 1 and 2. The antibody reacts with all the majorglycoproteins present in the viral envelope and with at least one core protein as determined by crossed immunoelectrophoresis. Contaminating antibodies to human and bovine serum have been removed by solid-phase absorption.
In ELISA the antibody shows no reaction with human and bovine plasma. The antibody shows no cross-reactivity to cytomegalovirus andEpstein-Barr virus.
In indirect immunofluorescence a weak cross-reactivity to varicella zoster virus can be expected if the antibody is used in a relatively highconcentration. However, no cross-reactivity was found when the antibody was tested at a dilution of 1:100.

Reagent Provided
Ready-to-use polyclonal rabbit antibody provided in liquid form in a buffer containing stabilizing protein and 0.015 mol/L sodium azide.
