Leiomyoma. The neoplastic cells and smooth muscle cells of small blood vessel wall show a strong cytoplasmic staining reaction.
Clinical application for IR054/IS054. For identification of smooth muscle and tumors with smooth muscle origin such as leiomyosarcoma, leiomyoma, angioleiomyoma and glomus tumor.
Leiomyosarcoma. The neoplastic cells show a strong cytoplasmic staining reaction - the intensity can vary from weak to strong
Clinical application for IR054/IS054. For identification of smooth muscle and tumors with smooth muscle origin such as leiomyosarcoma, leiomyoma, angioleiomyoma and glomus tumor.
Appendix. The smooth muscle cells show a moderate to strong cytoplasmic staining reaction.

Specificity
Two closely related variants of human caldesmon have been identified which differ in their electrophoretic mobility and cellular distribution. The h-caldesmon variant (120-150 kDa) is predominantly expressed in smooth muscle whereas I-caldesmon (70-80 kDa) is found in non-muscle tissue and cells. Neither of the two variants have been detected in skeletal muscle (2). Monoclonal anti-caldesmon, h-CD, recognizes only the 150 kDa variant (h-caldesmon) in Western blots of human aortic media extracts and is unreactive with fibroblast extracts from cultivated human foreskin (1).
Reagent Provided
Anti-human caldesmon, h-CD is a mouse monoclonal antibody supplied in liquid form as tissue culture supernatant (containing fetal bovine serum) dialyzed against 0.05 mol/L Tris-HCl, pH 7.2 and 0.015 mol/L sodium azide.

The protein concentration between lots may vary without influencing the optimal dilution. The titer of each individual lot is compared and adjusted to a reference lot to ensure a consistent immunohistochemical staining performance from lot-to-lot.
