Myogenin belongs to a family of regulatory proteins essential for muscle development. Expression of myogenin is restricted to cells of skeletal muscle origin, and appears to be inversely related to the degree of cellular differentiation.
The antibody recognizes an epitope located in the amino acid region 138-158 of the myogenin protein. It labels nuclei in the majority of human rhabdomyosarcomas and Wilms' tumors. No reactivity with Ewing's sarcoma/peripheral primitive neuroectodermal tumor, neuroblastoma, or adult skeletal muscle has been observed. Myogenin peptide from rat has been used for immunization.

Rat myogenin peptide (aa 73-94) conjugated to carrier protein and fusion peptide containing myogenin aa 30-224 (1).
Specificity
Monoclonal anti-myogenin, clone F5D, recognizes an epitope located in amino acid region 138-158 of the myogenin protein. Clone F5D has been found to immunostain myogenin in human, mouse and rat cultured myotubes and in neonatal mouse, rat and cat tissue specimens (1).
Reagent Provided
Monoclonal mouse antibody supplied in liquid form as immunoglobulin fraction of tissue culture supernatant purified by ammonium sulfate precipitation diluted in 0.05 mol/L Tris-HCl, pH 7.2, and 0.015 mol/L sodium azide.

The protein concentration between lots may vary without influencing the optimal dilution. The titer of each individual lot is compared and adjusted to a reference lot to ensure a consistent immunohistochemical staining performance from lot-to-lot.
