Monoclonal Mouse Anti-Human
Myosin Heavy Chain (Smooth Muscle)
Clone SMMS-1
Reacts with smooth muscle cells and myoepithelial cells, but not with myofibroblasts.
The antibody may be useful for the study of breast tumors as the presence of an intact layer of myoepithelial cells is an important feature which may distinguish benign breast lesions and carcinoma in situ from invasive tumors.
Isotype IgG1, kappa
- Frozen
- Formalin
- Enzyme + HIER
Breast hyperplasia (FFPE) stained with FLEX Anti-Myosin Heavy Chain (Smooth Muscle), Code IR066/IS066.
Breast hyperplasia. The myoepithelial cells around the ducts and the smooth muscle cells in the vessel walls show a strong staining reaction.
Clinical application for IR066/IS066 For identification of myoepithelial cells in the breast, and for identification of smooth muscle neoplasm.
Breast invasive ductal carcinoma with ductal carcinoma in situ. The myoepithelial cells in the ductal carcinoma in situ show decreased expression of smooth muscle heavy chain myosin, while the staining is absent or disrupted in the invasive areas.
Clinical application for IR066/IS066 For identification of myoepithelial cells in the breast, and for identification of smooth muscle neoplasm.
Uterus. Smooth muscle cells of the myometrium show a moderate to strong staining reaction.
Recommended control for IR066/IS066. Uterus/Appendix.
Appendix. Smooth muscle cells in muscle layers and blood vessels show a moderate to strong cytoplasmic staining reaction. The epithelial cells should be negative.
Recommended control for IR066/IS066. Uterus/Appendix.

Clone: SMMS-1 (1). Isotype: IgG1, kappa.
Mouse lgG concentration mg/L: See label on vial.
The protein concentration between lots may vary without influencing the optimal dilution. The titer of each individual lot is compared and adjusted to a reference lot to ensure a consistent immunohistochemical staining performance from lot-to-lot.

FLEX Monoclonal Mouse Anti-Human Smooth Muscle Myosin Heavy Chain, Clone SMMS-1, Ready-to-Use (Link), is intended for use in immunohistochemistry together with Autostainer Link instruments. This antibody is useful for the identification of breast myoepithelial cells. Myoepithelial cells are generally present in breast hyperplasia and ductal carcinoma in situ, and absent in invasive breast carcinoma (1-5). The clinical interpretation of any staining or its absence should be complemented by morphological studies using proper controls and should be evaluated within the context of the patient's clinical history and other diagnostic tests by a qualified pathologist.
