Alcian Blue/PAS/Hematoxylin Stain Kit, Artisan™

This stain is used for the demonstration of neutral and acidic mucosubstances on the Artisan™ Staining System. Alcian Blue pH 2.5 imparts a blue color to the acidic mucins and other carboxylated or weakly sulfated acid mucosubstances. The periodic acid Schiff (PAS) reaction is then used to stain basement membranes, glycogen and neutral mucosubstances pink to red. Mixtures of neutral and acidic mucosubstances will appear purple due to positive reactions with both Alcian Blue and PAS. A hematoxylin counterstain is then applied to impart a blue/black color to the nuclei.

Trachea stained with Alcian Blue/PAS/Hematoxylin, Code AR178.
